THE PRESENCE AND ABSENCE OF DEATH
The author tries to delineate several well known phenomena connected with death, which indirectly reveal its manifold visage. He presents various aspects of death’s presence and absence in its ontological, epistemological, sociological and psychological dimensions. He shows eight phenomena juxtaposed in pairs: death’s omnipresence – it’s intangibility; closeness – distance; inevitability – unexpectedness, and finally: elimination – fascination. The aim of presenting these phenomena is reflection on the various ways of “the manifestation” of death.
