The paper consists of analyses of contemporary visions of the subject of collective emancipation; the visions, which are presented with reference to particular contemporary political philosophers. Some of them present the subject of emancipation as a universal identity. However, according to contrary theories, when thinking about emancipation, the main focus should rest on particular demands. In this context, two prominent contemporary philosophers, Jacques Rancière and Ernesto Laclau, are studied in detail, including the weak spots of their respective theoretical propositions.
