Abstract

The ethical aspects of patriotism include in particular connected with the relation of an individual to the national community, of national community to the class communities, as well as that of national community to the mankind. Modern patriotism includes the recognition of an ethical primacy of value, which is welfare of the nation, over individual values, even such as own life and security of own family. The categorical recognition of the primacy of national interests over individual ones is an expression of the opposition of patriotism against utilitarianism in an individualistic meaning.
