The article is an attempt at describing the beginnings of Polish scientific ethics, based on the intellectual heritage of Aleksander Świętochowski and Julian Ochorowicz. These two most prominent representatives of Polish positivism tried to shift the burden of reflection from moral imperatives alone towards the sphere of their genesis. Świętochowski and Ochorowicz inquired into how moral laws come to be and how they are formulated, analyzing it with the then popular scientistic method. They note the sociological aspects of the process and look into the depths of the human psyche. Moreover, they attempt to create a new research paradigm for the science of ethics and assess its value for the development of society. Did they achieve the ambitious goal they set for their studies?
