The author of the article presents various issues associated with the problem of tolerance. She touches upon questions concerning the definition as well as the theme of tolerance and the motives for tolerant behaviour. The author presents three fundamental definitions of tolerance which Prof. Lazari-Pawłowska mentioned in one of her articles: negative tolerance, positive tolerance and tolerance defined as a lack of coercion while influencing one’s interaction partners. She tries to determine the borders of tolerance in both everyday life and scientific research. The problem seems to be significant since, according to Prof. Lazari-Pawłowska, tolerance is neither a fundamental value nor a value in itself.
