The main focus of this article is a presentation and critique of Jürgen Habermas’ recent theory of religion and public life. The article aims to reconstruct Habermas’s views on the role of religion in the public life, followed by an attempt to answer the following questions: Does his theory bring anything new to the liberal understanding of the relation between religion and politics? Does it solve the dilemma of religion in politics? Is it a realistic proposition? Is it a just one, i.e. does it treat the believers and the non‑believers in a symmetrical and equal manner?
