Cynic ethics is interpreted and evaluated in many ways. The interpretation offered in the article holds that Cynicism is an ethic of attitude, a clear continuation of Socrates’ thought. This interpretation is related to other readings of Cynic ethics, according to which Cynicism is a perspective on life, a proposal for a ‘return to nature’, or a sophist outlook. It is argued that Cynicism should be seen as a fully developed moral philosophy with its roots in the Socratic thought and close links with Stoicism.
